OVERVIEW

Digital templating eliminates the chip-out errors that kill old-school cardboard methods. We measure to ±1mm with a laser, send the file to the fabricator, and install slabs that drop in level on the first try. That precision is what makes waterfall edges and integrated sinks work.

Material choice drives durability more than brand. Quartz (engineered stone) is the right call in 80% of Pacific Northwest kitchens — non-porous, no sealing, consistent pattern. Natural stone is for the 20% where the visual character is the point and the maintenance is acceptable.

What we build

SCOPE
  • 01Digital templating
  • 02Quartz + sintered stone
  • 03Natural stone + waterfall edges
  • 04Integrated sinks
  • 05Backsplash coordination
  • 06Re-seal + maintenance

Phased process

PROCESS
  1. 01

    Selection

Slab viewing at fabricator yard, layout marked on slab for veining direction and book-matching.

  2. 02

    Digital template

Laser template after cabinets are installed level; outputs precise CAD file to fabricator.

  3. 03

    Fabrication

CNC cutting, edge profile, sink cutouts, faucet holes — typically 1–2 weeks.

  4. 04

    Install

Slabs dropped in level, seams epoxied with color-matched material, integrated sinks set.

  5. 05

    Seal & punch

Natural stone sealed (3 coats), backsplash gap caulked, final clean and care instructions.

Spec sheet

  • +Sintered stone: Dekton, Neolith (thin, heat-resistant, exterior-rated)
  • +Natural stone: marble, quartzite, granite, soapstone (sealed)
  • +Waterfall and mitered edges with hidden seams
  • +Integrated sinks (Blanco, Native Trails, custom stone)
  • +Standard edge profiles: eased, mitered, ogee, bullnose

Cost drivers

COST
  • Material (laminate → quartz → marble)$40/sf laminate → $120+/sf installed quartz → $200+/sf marble
  • Edge profile (eased vs waterfall)+$200–$1,500 per waterfall end vs straight edge
  • Slab thickness (2cm vs 3cm)+15–25% for 3cm; standard for kitchen counters
  • Sink type (drop-in → undermount → integrated)+$300–$2,500 depending on style and material
  • Book-matching for veining+$1,000–$5,000 for slab selection and layout

Codes & permits

COMPLIANCE
  • Silicosis / Cal-OSHA standards

All fabricators we work with run wet-saw cutting and proper respiratory protection. Important context for the industry but not a homeowner issue.

  • NSF/ANSI 51 (food contact)

Quartz and sintered stone are NSF-certified for food contact. Natural stone requires food-safe sealer.

WHEN_YOU_NEED

Is countertops the right call?

  • Kitchen or bath remodel — counters drive both the look and the daily use experience
  • Outdoor kitchens (Dekton, Neolith, granite — UV and freeze-thaw stable)
  • Vanity tops, fireplace surrounds, mudroom and laundry counters
  • Refresh on existing kitchen when cabinets are still solid

Counters questions

FAQ
  • Q.01

Quartz vs natural stone — which is better?

Quartz wins on maintenance — non-porous, no sealing, consistent pattern. Natural stone wins on character — every slab is unique. We recommend quartz for daily kitchens and natural stone for accent islands, vanities, and bars where the visual character justifies the upkeep.
  • Q.02

How long does counter install take?

1–2 weeks from template to install. Template happens after cabinets are level. Slabs cut, edged, and delivered for a 1-day install (small kitchens) or 2 days (large kitchens with islands).
  • Q.03

Can I have a waterfall island?

Yes — mitered 45° at the corners produces a near-invisible seam that reads as one continuous slab. Requires precise template and skilled install. Adds $1,500–$4,000 per waterfall end depending on material.
  • Q.04

    Do you remove old counters?

Yes — included in our scope. We disconnect plumbing, remove and dispose of old material, prep cabinet tops for new slab. Most quartz removals run 2–4 hours.
