The King County Capacity Charge is a 15-year monthly fee assessed on every new building (or new dwelling unit, including ADUs) that connects to King County's sewer system. As of 2025 the charge is ~$74/month for 15 years (≈$13,300 total per new unit) and is recorded as a lien against the property. The fee covers the regional cost of treatment capacity and is independent of any local hookup or impact fees.
